Derwent Vale Building Services Limited was formed in September 1997 by David Hume and Martin Aconley, both of whom have worked in the Industry in the Malton area for many years. They were well regarded in their previous positions of employment and this respect has grown as they have established and expanded their own business.
Over the last twelve years, Derwent Vale has built a reputation for excellence and integrity. We have good relationships with both clients and architects, working closely with them to complete projects in an efficient and professional manner, on time and within budget. As a result of this, orders have continued to grow as satisfied and repeat customers - Architects, Estates, local Councils and companies as well as private individuals - have recommended us to friends and colleagues.
The Company works to the highest standards, employing highly skilled tradesmen as well as using the best local sub-contractors for specialist tasks. Our growth has allowed us to strengthen our workforce through the employment of permanent staff instead of using casual subcontract labour. David believes this to be the best way to ensure quality - via in-house training and staff development.
As the Company developed, we were able to to relocate some 4 years ago to the current office and workshop base on Showfield Lane Industrial Estate in Malton, providing excellent links to service both local clients and those further towards the City of York. Our new premises also allowed the setting-up of a superb joinery workshop which has transformed the business by allowing greater flexibility, making the management of larger projects simpler and keeping costs as competitive as possible. David, as well as having qualified as a Quantity Surveyor, started his service in the Industry by completing an apprenticeship as a joiner, so this side of the business is particularly dear to his heart. Generally, Derwent Vale concentrates on domestic residential development and renovation, ranging from small extensions to complete new build, but we have also completed a number of Industrial projects. We recently handed over to the Client a prestigious extension to the commercial premises of Derwent Training, creating an excellent conference facility. As part of the programmed expansion, David has recognised the need to implement on going changes and improvements to the business, and this is demonstrated by their completion of a course organised through Business Link York & North Yorkshire, “Blueprint for Building Performance”, the course serving two key purposes: qualifying as Investors In People and aiming towards Business Excellence.
